El Chupacabra
Yes, the cover art is meant to symbolize a penis and balls. And yes, this movie is shamefully awesome.
Any movie about a Mortal Kombat style ping-pong tournament that features a cliché German stereotype and Christopher Walken as Feng, the Shao Kahn of raqueted sports, is a winner in my books. Yes, you may become more stupider after watching it, but it is the kind of just plain silly and fun movie that takes nothing seriously, most of all itself. Well, they did take one thing seriously, the fact that the movie revolves around a secret ping-pong tournament in a South American. Yes, that is seriously the plot. Our protagonist starts out as a child ping-pong prodigy whose father is killed by Feng. He gives up ping-pong and as the years pass, turns into an overweight and awkward adult. He is recruited by an FBI agent to bust up Feng's crime ring by infiltrating the invite only ping-pong tournament of death. It's hard to believe that a plot like that can result in a feature length movie, but the proof is sitting at your local movie store. If you're in a silly mood, really into ping-pong, a fan of Christoper Walken, legally retarded, or all the above then Balls of Fury will result in a fun, if not slightly vacuous, time. Definitely better if watched with a group of like-minded friends.| El Chupacabra's Ratings | |
